I’ve come across a recipe today, and I can’t resist sharing it with you, by adding some ingredients, of course, because well… it’s absolutely yummy!
Heat the milk with the vanilla pod until just boiling.
Mix together the egg yolks, sugar and cornflour in a bowl to get a smooth paste.
Pour the milk into the paste and stir well.
Strain the mixture back into a clean saucepan and, stirring constantly, cook gently until the custard thickens.
It looks easy. But it’s not. My mum custard has magic, an unique flavour, a touch of love! She has the habit of putting everything by eye. I’m keep trying to replicate mum’s custard, but never successfully! I’m not quitting though!
It’s the same principle with my writing! Never give up. The ingredients are at the tip of my pen, or my finger, you get the gist, the biggest obstacle is knowing which one goes first: a word? A sentence? An exclamation point? What guides me? Grammar or heart? Syntax or memories??
Take trial runs, as many as needed! If it doesn’t come out right, try again, and again, till your custard – or you story – comes out so yummy that everyone would lick their fingers!
