Be brave

Helene of Willow Poetry has challenged us with “What do you See?”.

She climbs the staircase straight into the sky with scarves of clouds.

Each step was weathered and worn, the result of daily unique and personal pilgrimages to the vistas above.

Step after step she would get closer to  water her flower.

A lifetime doing what takes her more than an hour.

To pour some magic and find her voice.

Each step builds a brave soul, and over a lifetime it defines who she is.

Being brave means facing that staircase every day,

It becomes a way of being, one to embrace.

Being brave means sometimes being afraid, but still have the determination not to be ruled by it.

She won’t be moulded by those who want her conveniently placated.

She won’t shy from the battlefields they create.

Though her heart may be weaker, her fingers tingle, her legs and knees get frailed, she is a warrior at heart, climbing the staircase to the sky with scarves of clouds to water her ‘be brave’ flower.
